Evan Voytas is an artist from LA by way of rural Pennsylvania. His work is distinguishable by his able guitar work backed by synthetic drums and ample synthesizer melodies. I had a chance to talk to him about his influences, his ideal band to tour with and much more.
I recently had a chance to interview the eclectic and enigmatic group Shock Bakura who hail from Gaudalajara, Mexico and play electronic music twisted with influences from 80′s pop and 90′s shoegaze. I spoke with them about their influences, origins, what they like about playing live and much much more.
I, on a whim was looking through the Zaphod Beeblebrox’s shows for November, and clicked a link for a band called Small Sins. I listened to their music and really enjoyed it. I kinda wish they were playing again after school is out so I can see them guilt free. Their soulful indie/folk/rock/tronica is catchy and substantial. I’ve got to get my hands on the album, but I think we have a contender for album of the year here.
Sensual Harassment have spun out another single that’s less floaty and Cure-like and more bass-y and aggressive. Kind of like if The Faint’s Bassist and Midnight Juggernauts Keyboardist decided to fight through a city of zombies with their respective instruments. I dig it.
I covered the Fever Marlene way back in March of 2008, citing their moving indie/electronica/songwriting as something that should be paid attention to. Now with their latest collection of songs, they’ve proven my previous statement true. They’ve expanded their sound to sound to include harder rock edges, some pounding rhythms and epic-ness. Not to fear though, their attention to sonic atmosphere remains and there’s a lot to pick up in the headphones.
