Woven is a band from Los Angeles, CA who have used refined noise to create a stunningly beautiful album in their latest release “Designer Codes”. Layers and layers of synth and clanking percussion fade in and out over their strong rock song structures. A lot of the time they sound like some of the more progressive work of The Cure submerged in a synth haze and cross polinated with trip hop. Every time I listen I imagine someone driving through the California desert with light refecting off of their sunglasses.

HEALTH//DISCO
I’ve known about HEALTH for a while now and that their music is pretty raw and edgy, but outside of their remixes I’d not heard that much of them. Recently I listened to both their original album and their HEALTH//DISCO albums and I have to say that while the original album is certainly interesting and has a cool groove occasionally I much prefer the remix CD. It seems that with punk and electro trying to find new ways of merging organically, the Health songs are perfect for attaching those electro beats and synths to. Seeing as it doesn’t get much more raw or punky than Health.

Back to School
This is going to be a bit of a random update, I started school this week at yet another fine institution and things are going pretty well thus far. Classes are going to be actual classes now, like “Hey, read the book, write a paper, take a test, get a grade!” kind of classes versus connecting sticks together in a meaningful pattern or taking bad photographs of dogs or fat girls stripping. I’ll actually be taking real classes and learning things that I did not know previously, like Renaissance Europe, Modern Japan, Historiography, Western Theater, so I’m pretty psyched to be relevant again and not an impotent hippie. It’s going to be a bright future, with regards to expanding my resume. Although being the new guy again is kind of rough, but I’ll manage.
Anyway, back to music, I received 4 albums in the mail the other day and none of them are duds, which is rare and makes me happy. So in the meantime I’ll put up a couple songs having to do with school. Oh yeah, and I’ll have a radio show again. So I’ll try and capture that and post it as a podcast. I declare good times are in the pipeline.

Pow Pow Pow Bam Bam Bam Chk Chk Chk
So, I’ve been a little busy since I got home from college looking for a job, but I do have some updates to put up this week. First up I’d like to talk about !!! (Chk Chk Chk). They came up to Montreal last Friday, but unfortunately my Great Aunt’s funeral was the same day, and family things tend to come before party things. So anyway, despite my not being there the show was said to have been great. Their new album is across the board one of the best dance albums of 2007. It was one of the very first reviews I wrote for the AZLTRON blog. They also recently put out a video for their awesome track “Must be the Moon” from Myth Takes, which is my favorite track on the album, so needless to say it’s pretty sweet.
