The UK’s brother-sister duo Arcade Eden, Lawrence and Clare Welling, sound like a funky amalgam of The Ting Tings and Crystal Castles. Their jam “Black Light” is set for a December 7th release. If you’re in the mood for some deer antler disco balls and some high waisted sparkly shorts check them out.
I just can’t get over those sparkly shorts… is this a new trend? Am I morphing into a grandpa, overly concerned with dress of today’s youth? Either way I’m eager to hear more from these two.
Mr. Vega, arguably the hardest working remixer in the biz, returns again with mixes of Franz Ferdinand’s as of yet unreleased single “Ulysses” and Crystal Castles’ haunting jam “Vanished”. The perfect electro-caffeine to kick off your Tuesday morning.
I’ve known about HEALTH for a while now and that their music is pretty raw and edgy, but outside of their remixes I’d not heard that much of them. Recently I listened to both their original album and their HEALTH//DISCO albums and I have to say that while the original album is certainly interesting and has a cool groove occasionally I much prefer the remix CD. It seems that with punk and electro trying to find new ways of merging organically, the Health songs are perfect for attaching those electro beats and synths to. Seeing as it doesn’t get much more raw or punky than Health.
I apologize for the lack of posts in the month of April, due to some academic/social activities the blog was put way on the back burner, but guess what? I’m back. Also, a new Wesley cartoon. Could life be any sweeter? Well, if school was over and the summer was here… all in good time.
Laromlab produces the funkiest sounds you’ll hear this year made off of 8-bit machines and vintage keyboards. Imagine a more coherent Crystal Castles with less screaming and the hardest working analog bass in electronic dance music and you’re coming close to what LaromLab sounds like.
In August the fine music blog MissingToof posted some covers that LaromLab did of Daft Punk favorites “Around the World” and “Aerodynamic”, they were soon taken down on some legality, but the fact that they were released into the public consciousness cannot be undone. The covers are used often to get the L.A. and San Francisco night life riled up. Like in this video of DJ AM playing their around the world cover in front of MSTRKRFT.
After you’re done enjoying how drunk these party goers are there’s also a video of LaromLab himself introducing you to his methods of music making.
If that wasn’t enough, here’s his upcoming tour schedule:

L.A. based noise band Health and Toronto based glitch band Crystal Castles are set to release a self titled split 7″ from Lovepump United. A well devised team up since both bands provide an assault on the ears that just rides the outer realm of listenable music, be it due to garbled electronics drowning out vocals or pounding beats and stabbing guitars. Health’s track “Crimewave” sounds like a gothed out Klaxons scoring a horror movie, while Crystal Castles’ “Mother Knows Best” is an 8-Bit assault that is at once violent and captivating and it ends far too soon. Anyway, this dual attack of raw artists creates that car wreck in slow motion kind of feel and I can’t turn away.
The fine French folks over at Kitsune Maison sent me a megamix of their new compilation CD, and it is, how do you say, quite good. It features all of these fine artists and tracks listed below.
