Left and Right from I am Noxious!

I am Noxious is an electronic artist out of London whose work I have been enjoying lately. His track “Left & Right” skitters about on some catchy chords while he croons about the multiple meanings of the terms left and right. The lyrics might be ambigious, but the melodies and clubby beats make this worth a listen… or two… or five. it’s up to you really.

Sportsday Megaphone’s New Video & Single "Meet Me in The Middle!"

Hugh Frost of Sportsday Megaphone has been busy! Not only does he have a fantastic new video that starts off all cutesy that warps into something that might make all you bunny lovers a little queasy, he has a whole new album called “So Many Colours, So Little Time” which is chock full of electro/synth-pop goodness. If that weren’t enough there’s also a cornucopia of remixes and one excellent cover available below.

Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head

Natalie Portman’s Shaved head is a 5 piece out of Seattle that rivals the likes of CSS and Does it Offend You Yeah? with their clever hipster fashion references and relentless electro/power pop. Their new album ‘Glistening Pleasure’ drops July 15th and it is a bangin’ album. The concepts of the songs are amusing alone, like “Sophisticated Sideways Ponytail” and “Beard Lust” but wait there’s more, they erupt into a full on indie dance party often calling to mind the Cure’s experimentation in the early 80′s with pop/dance and the falsetto layering of the Dandy Warhols. If you’re in the mood for some reckless abandon with a shot of coy self awareness NPSH can provide you with a good time.

Frankmusik Alphabeat & Leon Jean-Marie Get Some Digital Lovin’

I literally just checked my e-mail and I saw the words “Frankmusik” and “Alphabeat” in one of the subject headers, so thought, “This is the best thing I’ve been sent in days” before I even opened it. So long story short, tour mates Frankmusik, Alphabeat, and Leon Jean-Marie collaborated on a cover of Daft Punk’s “Digital Love”. The results are highly enjoyable.

Frankmusik

Filed under: Frankmusik — AZLTRON @ 10:07 pm

I’ve been playing the Frankmusik song “Made Her Smile” for months now and I have routinely enjoyed the song’s kinetic bombast. Enough to periodically check the Londoner’s Myspace routinely. It appears that the synth prodigy has a new album coming out sometime in 2008, entitled Complete Me. You can sample several tracks on the aforementioned Myspace. If you’re like me and can’t wait for his full length debut, you can listen to his excellent EP Frankisum available here.

The Monday Radio Show, STACK ATTACK!

So I have a show that is broadcast from WNYO every Monday from 11-noon. I know that many people are in class or at work and cannot listen. However I am in the process of developing techniques and schedules so that everyone can listen to my show. If you can you should definitely listen next week because I have a special guest co-host. Anyway one of my plans is to post all the tracks I’ve played the same day.

I realize that it is Wednesday morning and that I am posting Monday’s show. So, I’ll just get to it.

Running to Kelly to Make her Smile in Chicago

The Purple Crush are an electro duo from Brooklyn that caught my attention with a string of remixes from their jam “Shopping on the Dancefloor”. The track of theirs I’m hooked on is the excellent cover of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill”. They turn the haunting ballad into an emotive dance floor burner.

The Van She is a band out of Australia that from what I’ve heard distills the mid 80′s teenage angst circa Prett In Pink into fist pumping pop anthems. Pop your collars, put on your horn rimmed sunglasses, and prepare yourself for the ideal mid 80′s Prom. Or you could just listen to their first single “Kelly”, I’m pretty sure they’re the same thing.

Frankmusik, not to be confused with Mix Master Frank (remember the k on the music people), has been tearing up the scene with his remixes for some time now, but his original work “Made Her Smile” forcibly drills it’s way through your cranium and clears out whatever is left there and nestles in for a long winters nap. It’s pretty darn catchy electro pop.

Microfilm is a two man homage to German techno, synthpop, and everything that is good with the world of electronic music. They have an excellent cover of Sufjan Steven’s Chicago that you should go and listen to immediately, along with all their other minimalist grooves.

(Update) I received an mp3 from the electronically adept duo just a little while ago of their single “After Dark” from their album of the same name. The track is boiling over with kinetic energy, and if you’re going to listen and drive, please don’t break the speed limit.

Also, last thing, I’m going to shamelessly plug my radio show on campus, which you can listen to here from 11am to 12pm eastern standard time, so adjust your clocks and schedules accordingly because it’s going to be a good time.
