Jon & Roy

Filed under: Feist, Jack Johnson, Jens Lekman, Jon Roy, Jose Gonzales, Peter Bjorn John — AZLTRON @ 9:00 am

Jon Middleton and Roy Vizer are in a folk pop band. Their band is called Jon & Roy and they are from British Columbia, Canada. Jon sings and plays guitar while Roy plays drums and percussion. Their song “Another Noon” was used in a Volkswagen commercial for their Eos vehicle. It’s an interesting selection for a car commercial as their music is relatively mellow whereas most car commercials have some kind of upbeat electronic/rock songs. I think the method works though, as Jon & Roy provide a calming atmosphere amidst a sea of volume turned up way too loud.

Their music accompanies the end of summer particlularly well. I can imagine campers living out thier last day fishing off of a small row boat and reclining around the campfire until the remaining embers burn out. Thier music isn’t anything revolutionary but it does fill the niche for contented late night drives home.

AZLTRON’s Dance Antidote Mix

On the cusp of summer and my full-time employment, I impart to you, my faithful readers this creation of mine, the dance mix antidote. But wait? Don’t I largely support dance music? Yes, but dance music is largely loud energetic and entices you to move. Which are all great things that I will continue to revel in at almost every opportunity, but you know what? Sometimes I get tired. I bet you do too. So why not bask in a collection of healing and soothing songs that will re-energize you for another synth/punk/indie/electro dance party? After all, we are not robots, no matter how much some of us might like to be.

Findlay Brown

Filed under: Dave Mathews Band, Findlay Brown, Jack Johnson, Jose Gonzales — AZLTRON @ 4:23 pm

Usually I am not one for pretty boy/guitarist/songwriters, or let me put it this way; in my opinion Dave Mathews Band and Jack Johnson belong in a purgatory equal to that of their middle of the road jam band meanderings. Now that that’s off my chest let me just state that Findlay Brown is an amazing musician and songwriter who just happens to be a young man who plays the acoustic guitar. His music taps into the same vein as Jose Gonzales with thoughtful delivery and some careful experimentation with timeless pop. I have a feeling he could sing me the phone book and I would end up singing numbers walking to class. If you’re looking for acoustic guitar music with actual substance versus a lure for that drunken sorority girl to go to your room, Findlay Brown delivers.
