A Venezuelan armed with a drum machine, autotune, and synthesizers is trying to steal your heart and your moneys with his new album “The Reddest Ruby”. Employing a velvety smooth Postal Service pastiche with a couple of digitized Cure flourishes here and there Nuuro will no doubt take you on a fantastic aural adventure, just don’t stay up late forever. Nah, I’m kidding stay up as long as you want.

Sportsday Megaphone’s New Video & Single "Meet Me in The Middle!"
Hugh Frost of Sportsday Megaphone has been busy! Not only does he have a fantastic new video that starts off all cutesy that warps into something that might make all you bunny lovers a little queasy, he has a whole new album called “So Many Colours, So Little Time” which is chock full of electro/synth-pop goodness. If that weren’t enough there’s also a cornucopia of remixes and one excellent cover available below.

Free! Throcke’s "Sometimes Not Unpointful"
Chris Carson is a musician from Brooklyn who goes by the name of Throcke. His music is a collection of strange electronic sounds and fuzzed out vocals. For a limited time you can download his album “Sometimes Not Unpointful” for free at his official site. The album is something like a lo-fi combo of James Figurine and The Berg Sans Nipple. Act now before it’s too late!

Eugene Francis Jnr
Eugene Francis Jnr has the most confusing profile information I’ve read on an artist in quite a while. He is Welsh, but his parents were Apache and Inuit. People think he is American. He describes his blue eyes as “pulchritudinous”.
Backed by his bionic band the Juniors, Eugene Francis Jnr professes to discard effects and “21st century bunk” and play with a weak voice with a strong passion, the latter I don’t doubt, but the man’s sonics are akin to The Flaming Lips, with a distinct electronic psychedelic edge. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. In fact, his modest vocals, optomistic lyrics, and penchant for clear crisp melodies sound pretty good.
His latest album is “The Golden Beatle” is available at Amazon.

Bikini
I recently had a fan of the blog leave a comment and a recommendation for the Montreal based based duo, Bikini. Their sound is right up my alley. Their cover of Feist’s “1234″ is very electronic but doesn’t overdo it, the normally cold vocoder sound, here, actually sounds gentle and sweet. Their original song “I Remeber Being Young” is reminiscent of Sportsday Megaphone and Frankmusic for its lo fi electro sound, vocal edits, and poignant nostalgic lyrics. Good pick anonymous.

Another Sound
Plastic Operator came to my attention a couple weeks ago, with their immediately catchy pop melodies and heartfelt lyrics I had no choice but to succumb to rabid fandom. No sooner had I listened to three sample tracks, had the band themselves sent me the album in it’s totality. Thus making my day.
Their album “Different Places”is an adventure through poignant lyrics and a variety of sculpted sounds that combine to form polished pop songs. The gentle vocals and cooing synths call to mind a cross between the Postal Service and more traditional dance music. A full range of emotions are employed throughout the album, from deep melancholy, to optimistic introduction, to weary perseverance, to saccharine sarcastic songs. With my predisposition to electronic music and the strength of this release, this album is bound to be on the top of my favorites for this year.

Backwards Through Wilco Forwards to Plastic Operation
Okay, I’ve been away for a long time, almost ten days, but with good reason. I’ve been doing school work. A lot of it, and procrastinating on a lot of it which as many of you know is just as important as working on it. So what I’ll be doing today is posting a few tracks that I’ve really been digging the last few days.
MP3 – Can’t Stand It – Wilco
I decided to check out Wilco earlier than Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Summerteeth being the easiest to remember so I listened to that one first, and man, what a collection of songs, every bit as catchy and poppy as YHF with a touch of experimentation but the songs just breathe a little more. There’s a slight sheen left off the final mixes and it makes them shine that much more. Opening track “Can’t Stand It” is what I decided would be the music playing in the opening sequence of a biopic based on myself. It’s dramatic, playful and above all ironic (A key element), when the organ hits and Jeff tweedy lets loose a raspy wail through a megaphone I dare you to not bob your head. I’ll report more songs that I enjoy as I continue my adventure backwards through Wilco’s catalogue.

MP3 – Peppermint – Plastic Operator
The next artist on my ‘hit list’ is plastic operator. I don’t remember what I was looking for, but I stumbled across them the other day and what I am amazed by is how good their songwriting is, for an electronic band, the pop structures and choruses are mind bogglingly affective. Sure many songs start off with a sampled beat, or one clearly programmed on our friend the Casio but the inclusion of an acoustic guitar and gentle crooning vocals complete the package. When the cascade of melancholy synth starts in Home 0207 you’ll be floored. They sound like the Notwist, if they would just make more synthetic sounds and make more straight up pop. The gentle coaxing of electronics through a pure pop sound gets two thumbs up from me.
