Guess What Wesley is Dressed as! Plus: Superb Saturday Mix!

This is it! The last Wesley the Robot Cartoon of the year! I decided to take a hiatus from the squid battle and do something more festive and cute. Who would have ever thought that “Cute” would be the word to describe this emotionally impaired automoton? Stay tuned for more on Wesley’s meteoric rise to fame.

Eugene Francis Jnr

Eugene Francis Jnr has the most confusing profile information I’ve read on an artist in quite a while. He is Welsh, but his parents were Apache and Inuit. People think he is American. He describes his blue eyes as “pulchritudinous”.

Backed by his bionic band the Juniors, Eugene Francis Jnr professes to discard effects and “21st century bunk” and play with a weak voice with a strong passion, the latter I don’t doubt, but the man’s sonics are akin to The Flaming Lips, with a distinct electronic psychedelic edge. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. In fact, his modest vocals, optomistic lyrics, and penchant for clear crisp melodies sound pretty good.

His latest album is “The Golden Beatle” is available at Amazon.

Bikini

Filed under: Daft Punk,frankmusic,Plastic Operator,Sportsday Megaphone,the lk — AZLTRON @ 8:36 am

I recently had a fan of the blog leave a comment and a recommendation for the Montreal based based duo, Bikini. Their sound is right up my alley. Their cover of Feist’s “1234″ is very electronic but doesn’t overdo it, the normally cold vocoder sound, here, actually sounds gentle and sweet. Their original song “I Remeber Being Young” is reminiscent of Sportsday Megaphone and Frankmusic for its lo fi electro sound, vocal edits, and poignant nostalgic lyrics. Good pick anonymous.

The LK Vs The Snow

Since I played “The Private Life of a Cat” off of their debut LP Vs. The Snow I have been hooked on The LK’s sound collage pop style. The band consists of Lindefelt, an abstract concrete music style sound artist and Frederik who is a master class songwriter. Together they craft some of the most compelling sounds I’ve heard so far this year. Super melodic pop songs with euro-disco stylings that will make you shimmy and shake while they melt your heart. As if that weren’t enough, they’re from Sweden, now I’ve stated before that artists from Sweden must be taking some kind of music enhancing drugs because anything from that country that’s been brought to my attention has been outstanding (Jens Lekman anyone?). I’ve listened through the album a few times now, and I can say, it’s a solid listen from beginning to end, I have a feeling that this will end up on my year end best of list. Yes, I know it’s just February, but this found sound euro-pop is stunningly well made. Maybe the reason the music is so good is because they stay inside and work on it rather than go out in the snow, the album is called Vs The Snow, after all. If I only had this album and some headphones to fight off a snowy day, I think I’d fair pretty well. As for conspiracy theories on the quality of Swedish music I think I’ll stick with my water theory. Someone get me a sample of the water supply in Sweden and check it for the raw essence of good music, then bottle me some.
