The Neon Indian show at Ithaca College turned out to be in a conference room with the most comfortable carpeted floor I’ve ever experienced at a show. Openers “Blair” with their Julia Stiles look-a-like front lady didn’t sound bad, they just never did anything to get my attention. I don’t want to call them vanilla rock, because I like vanilla. I will say they were like a paint by numbers set with a picture of a girl indie-rocker.
Neon Indian on the other hand, brought all the synths, pads, pedals, samplers that I needed to hear from them. Their live version of Ephemeral Artery was all I hoped and dreamed it would be. The guitarist also had the coolest guitar I have ever seen with a light up LED screen. If anything the vocals were a little too low in the mix, but it was fascinating to see how Neon Indian play their heavily processed tunes live. It was like a game of “I Spy”. “I spy a guitar making a sound that a synth might make!”
Terminally Chill by Neon Indian
I also found out that Neon Indian produced a track for a band called Miniature Tigers. It’s called “Gold Skull”.
